Jerry, I did check that which told me that the Mac calls it Logic board, but it does not tell me what goes out if the motherboard fails. I mean, if it goes bang, then it seems to me the total system should not work, or? The other extras might well be done in, without the motherboard having gone out, too. I can't understand why somebody for instance would tell me my motherboard had gone out if only one of my software programs had died.

I have a friend who has a PC whose CD drive went out. They told him at one of those stores that his motherboard went out and since his computer is 6 years old, they of course wanted to sell him one. My question to all you knowledgeable people: What actually does a motherboard do? What would go out if it went kaputt? I am actually interested myself now. I learned as much that on a Mac they call it a logic board. But this does not explain anything to me.
Any enlightening answer -- but for a lay person , please.
