My understanding is that you don't need one unless you
have an outside antenna.  Is that true?  I have an
older set that is plugged directly into the cable (no
set-top box).  Is it a good assumption that we won't
need a converter box.  

All the information out there is pretty confusing. 
Even the TV salespeople at Sears couldn't give me a
good definitive answer (well, they may want to sell me
a set)!
