I had an older set and a newer set, the older on with an aerial, the
newer one on satellite. I started having problems with some stations
with the older set, so I purchased a new, flat TV, that looks like a
computer monitor, and connected it to my aerial. I was absolutely
amazed at all the stations that one can now get free. There are some
stations I can get with the aerial that I can not get on satellite,
and of course, vice versa. I hope the box does the same things with
the older sets, but I guarantee, the older sets will never give the
same quality picture as the newer ones.

I think that sets attached to cable or satellites do not need the box.

My understanding is that you don't need one unless you
have an outside antenna. Is that true? I have an
older set that is plugged directly into the cable (no
set-top box). Is it a good assumption that we won't
need a converter box.

All the information out there is pretty confusing.
Even the TV salespeople at Sears couldn't give me a
good definitive answer (well, they may want to sell me
a set)!
