If by Infrared pointer you mean the one that comes with MacBooks and MacBook Pro's. I would not expect it to work with a monitor unless the monitor had a way to program the input of a infrared signal. Most remotes must be taught how to work with a TV or DVD or VCR. I had a real time trying to find one to work with my father in laws TV/VCR combo It still did not work completely. I would have to know the monitor's native resolution. A MacBook would have problems due the the video chip in them to handle certain resolutions. For presentations I always go a few days in advance to make sure I have everything in place and see what equipment I will be using. Prior planning always makes you look good.:)
