Apple TV is nothing like Tivo.
Apple TV is just a way for all your media files on a Mac in iTunes so
they can be played on a TV.
A Tivo is a DVR so it records TV.
I would get the Tivo if what you want to do is watch TV.
With the up coming Fall season you can get season passes for all your
favorite TV shows and
then can watch TV on your schedule.

There are some Web specials on the Tivo website right now.
You should get the WiFi adapter so that your Tivo can access the
internet to update the
TV schedule all the time.
