Harry when I had my Touch I found that there is a whole bunch of
Wireless signals that really aren't for internet connections. Example HP
has wireless printers that send out a signal that
Looks like a basic wifi connection but is only good for printing.

What Lee is saying is go to the Settings> Wi-Fi Networks and you can see
what type of signal you are getting and if there is a connection.

If you look at this page:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398

You see that the router has given the iPhone all the info it needs to
get to the internet.
If you looked at the connection where you could not access the internet
the
Info would be missing.

For many public free wifi connections I always fire up the safari
browser and accept
Their conditions for using the connection before I do anything.
Example: Panera bread you must sign in before and accept before they
give you a connection.

Subject: [MacGroup] iPod touch and wireless

I was out and about with my iPod touch today. I was able to connect to
an "unsecured" wireless network, ie, there was no lock associated with
the network. The wireless connection was strong, it showed multiple
bars, yet when I tried to check email or open up a web page I received a
message saying unable to connect to mail host or, in the case of safari,
I was told Safari was not connected to the internet.

I'm at home now and connected to my home wireless network and, at least
in the case of Safari, I am able to connect to the internet.

Any clues as to why I couldn't connect while out and about?

Thanks.

Harry
