Harry,

I don't think any of the main group have good records of "gentle  
handling".   DHL is all but out of business, gone.   FedX is about the  
same as UPS but I have shipped some very expensive items and the key  
is to insure the dickens out of it.   They would not accept the  
package unless I agreed (I do all my shipping on line) to take the  
package to a store where they would open and inspect.  I had to have  
the employee of the store sign the form that I was given for their  
approval.

I stopped in and the attendant did their thing, rewrapped the contents  
(at their expense) and of course it arrived in great shape.

I did ship a very expensive antique clock to a family member and used  
an independent shipper in Louisville but that was 15 years ago and I  
can't remember who they were, but a search should find one for you.
