Ann,

Now I may have overstepped my level of Mac proficiency, that level being
about one millimeter high. My lampshade will power up, but it won't open
any application; all I get is a pale blue screen. My firewire line runs
from one of the two firewire slots on the lampshade to the firewire slot on
the new Mac (it has two firewire slots, but they apparently require
different size plugs). Then I hold down the "T" key on the lampshade
keyboard while holding down the power key on the lampshade. It takes a
while, but eventually the lampshade shows a pale blue screen with the
firewire icon moving around on the screen. At the same time, the firewire
icon appears on the desktop of the new computer. Clicking on it will open
the lampshade HD (on the new computer) and you can do whatever you
want with it, just as if it were installed on the new Mac.

After reviewing previous posts on this subject on macgroup, I suspect that
it may be your power supply that's on the fritz. In that case, you can just
remove the lampshade HD (as someone suggested) and use it as an external
drive.

Hope I haven't overly-complicated the situation.

Nolan
