Ann, My prized little lampshade went out about 3 months ago, after 8 years of trouble-free service. I had hoped it would last longer than me, but that was not to be. Just in time, while the lampshade was showing bad symptoms, I bought a 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, which I am quite pleased with -- next best thing to a lampshade, and the 20" flat screen monitor is nifty. While all this was happening, the Apple store here in Bowling Green diagnosed (for $35) the lampshade and determined that the logic board was defunct, and as you probably know replacing it would cost more than the computer was worth. But in case you don't know, it's a fairly easy process to get stuff off the dead lampshade HD and transfer it to the new 'puter. All it takes is a firewire connection. So I keep the lampshade on my desk near the new one, and often discover that I need some file on the lampshade that I had otherwise forgotten about. Just in case you don't know about this.
