No. You need two. One to put the signal on your household wiring and
one to take it off. The ones I put in Mike's house were refurbs that I
got for about $30 apiece, but I have seen new ones in a twin pack in a
retail store (in Indianapolis, haven't seen them locally, sorry) for
$100. You can get them online, though.

While we're on the subject, there is a range of speeds for the things.
Among the ones I've seen are between 80 Mbps and 200 Mbps. Mbps = Mega
BITS per second. For comparison fast ethernet is 100 Mbps and gigabit
ethernet is (of course) 1000 Mbps. So, the slowest are slower than
fast ethernet, while the fastest are about twice as fast as fast
ethernet. Another comparison is that wireless G is rated at 64 Mbps,
so even the slowest powerline ethernet adapters are faster than
regular Airport Extreme.

One other problem with the PEAs is that they cannot work through any
device between them. So surge protectors are verboten. Even bad
household wiring and some breaker box configurations will reduce
performance and even block the signal.

The $100 a pair ones I mentioned are the NetGear HDXB101 and are the
200. Prices on it vary widely, from the aforementioned C-note to
almost twice that. The cheapest I could find the package is here:

They appear to be the cheapest of the faster ones that I could find.
