Lots of speculation about this product. The ramped up chatter seems to indicate it will be unveiled most-likely later this year. It would be the "big brother" of the iPod touch (larger screen most likely 8 - 10") which would make it ideal as a book/magazine reader/media player as well as for music, work, games etc...
Price would most likely fall between the iPhone and low-end Apple notebook. But, we will have to wait and see what magic tricks Apple has up its sleeve.
