Hi Folks,
I have a USB thumb drive which was made to secure on that other OS.
When I use it on my Mac, it appears as 2 different drives---even in
Disk Utility, so I cannot repartition it to be a single drive. If I
look at it on a Windoze machine, it looks like a floppy and a hard
drive. If I look at it with diskutil, unix says:
/dev/disk1
#: TYPE NAME SIZE
IDENTIFIER
0: Apple_partition_scheme *1.9 Gi disk1
1: Apple_partition_map 31.5 Ki
disk1s1
2: Apple_HFS swing drive 1.8 Gi

FWIW, the disk names under Disk Utility are "USB DISK Pro Media".
Does anyone know if there is some way to combine the two (apparent)
disks into one? Failing that, is there some way to get it to be
unrecognized by Mac OS X, so that it'll stop mounting? I cannot
partition it and have it be all empty space, because it is too small
(1.44MB, as those big floppies were).
Having to eject two disks has finally gotten me annoyed enough to ask.

Hi Bill. If this is a Sandisk Cruzer flashdrive, you need the Macintosh
(or Windows) removal tool and info at URL:
http://u3.com/support/default.aspx#CQ3
If this is another drive of that type (with a second partition), I would
imagine that you could remove the partitions (and reformat the
flashdrive) with Gnome Partition Manager or a similar utility under
Ubuntu Linux.
Failing that, get a copy of Paragon Disk Backup (demo) or Paragon
Partition Manager (Windows or standalone utilities) and use that to nuke
the flashdrive. I particularly like Paragon Disk Manager as it can
create a standalone bootable CD or flashdrive that will copy (and nuke)
ANY kind of multi-partition disk (including Macintosh HFS+) that you can
throw at it!
