Hey Folks,

I went and bought an Airport Extreme b/c of advice here, plus the difference in the price for the recommended fancy Linksys and the educational price of the Airport was minimal.

I've now had by far a harder and less successful time setting this up than I have had with any other router. The Airport Utility is about as transparent as the books at AIG.

I can get my MBP and my wife's white MacBook to hook up to the Guest network, but I cannot get either of us to hook up to the 'private' network on either of the bands. [My MBP did manage to attach to the private 5GHz network briefly. One episode of sleeping and the honeymoon was over.]

Every time I try to get to one of the private networks, I get a Connetion timeout (-3905 timeout connecting) error. I've tried changing passwords, changing the name of the network, changing the type of password, rebooting the computers, rebooting the airport extreme. Nada. No connections.

Perhaps I am completely missing the point of the private network, and hence am doing some sort of setup incorrectly. The manual is of zero help.

Googling has not brought up anything useful---only other people having problems, but without any solutions.

Perhaps this is (one of many) problems with Snow Leopard. [Another fine feature: Mail in SL suddenly forgetting all the passwords to all of my email accounts, even though the passwords are in the Keychain. The rest of the problems have to do with 32-bit vs. 64-bit and use of outside software---not really a SL problem per se, but something that will make me revert to Leopard when close to my offsite backup.]
