I am using Leopard on a MacBook pro.

While traveling recently I was using my computer on a hotel network for
guests.

In the left hand side of the finder window are four tabs (Devices,
Shared, Places, Search for).

I happened to click on the "shared" tab and discovered a whole list of
names. I was traveling with friends and recognized a couple of their
names in the shared columm.

I was able to click on one of my friends names and open his hard drive
and get several levels down into his computer.

My friend could see me, too.

How can we prevent our computers being seen (and opened) on a wireless
(or wired) network like you find in a hotel?

How can I prevent others from opening my hard drive? Would I be able to
tell if they did?

TIA.

Harry
