Bill, i should have mentioned that I use Leopard, and there i cannot find this track pad do-dat at all. My iBook with Tiger in it, has this option and I have it turned off for as long as I can remember, but I cannot do anything in my MBp with version 10.5.8 running. In trackpad it shows the way to do it,a little video, and an option for zooming. that is all i can find.

Marta-
Are you wanting to use a mouse, instead of the trackpad?
If so, in your system pref choices, under Keyboard & Mouse, under tab for 'Trackpad, down at the bottom, click 'ignore trackpad when mouse is present'. Isn't that wonderful! Apple has a rodent detection system built right into our equipment to help keep our homes pest free! So remember, if you have this check-box clicked and there is a field mouse hiding somewhere in you house, your trackpad will not work.
Thank you Apple!

Is there a way to put the track pad out of commission? I don't use it, my hands aren't nimble, the ad gets in the way. My system preferences don't seem to show anything of the sorts.
