Ok, this is not a Mac problem but maybe one of you out there can help. My wife has a five year old Compaq Presario running Windows XP. It was really slowing down and creaking along. I took the computer to a friend who has a PC business (Jeff Slyn, www.slynsystems.com). Jeff did a great job btw.
He installed a new hard drive, increased the memory to a gig and, using the computers restore disks installed Windows XP and all the updates on the new drive. I brought the computer home and began installing the third party software I had purchased for the computer and encountered no problems till I tried to install Adobe Photoshop Elements 2. it was on the old hard drive and worked well. (Yeah I know it's old but it did all she needed it to do). BTW, the install disk had both Mac and Windows software. Well, I've been trying to install Elements 2 on the upgraded PC now and it simply won't install. Here's what happens when I put the disc in the drive: The opening splash screen comes up and asks which language I want to use. I check U.S. English and click next and the next screen appears with all the legal jargon. I click accept and then click next. The next screen to appear is one that offers two options: 1. install Adobe Acrobat reader 5.0 2. Install Photoshop elements When I click the Install Photoshop Elements button nothing happens. I have cleaned the disc, cleaned the drive (with a disc I got at radio shack), and even attached an external DVD drive to the PC. None of this seems to work. I've tried this about 10 or 15 times. On the 2nd or 3rd attempt I had walked away from the computer and when I came back 10, 15 minutes later another screen appeared and I clicked install. It started installing the program but 3 or 4 screens in it hung and repeatedly installed something like individual language files. I let it go for 15 minutes and it just kept installing those files over and over again. Any clue as to what's going on? I suspect that the most recent updates to the system software will not allow me to install the adobe software. So my question to the group do any of you have PC experience and could perhaps help with my problem? I thought about buying the most recent elements - Elements 8 but you have to purchase either the Mac or the PC version, both versions do not come on one disk any more. So I am loathe to purchase and I don't even know if elements 8 will work on my system. (And why would I put elements 8 on the PC and not on the Mac - it's not fair!) Another question, does anyone have an Elements disk Windows XP they are not using anymore and would be willing to sell? Thanks.
