Yes, drag the backup files to the trash and go watch a movie.....or two.  It 
does take awhile to empty all those files.  It automatically truncates the 
older files with the new when the disk is full.  The larger your backup drive 
the more days and months of data you will be able to store.  I LOVE it for when 
something goes bump in the night the backup restores it perfectly.  When I 
purchase a new machine it ask if I want to program the settings from another 
Mac, TimeMachine or skip this process.  If you use TimeMachine you will end up 
with the exact machine you had before, all settings are completely restored.
