Anne, I have been using Time Machine for almost two years, and I highly recommend it just as it comes from the box. Essentially you don't have to do anything but let it run in the background. Not having to schedule backups is one of the most compelling reasons for using it, in that you never have to think about it! I have backups going back more than a year, but as the program needs more room, it deletes the oldest data, so it truly eliminates the need to worry about it until you need it! I have used it several times to recover a file I have accidentally erased, and it works like a charm!
