will the metal back on the phone do a better job than a plastic or rubber or silicone case?

It is my understanding the Verizon phone set for Jan.? will have a metal back which will solve the antenna problem, if there is one. I would also think that the AT&T phone would get the metal back at the same time, I can't see them producing them differently, especially if the Verizon model DID get better reception.
