I'm not the best one recommend for your purposes, for I have never
owned a laptop - my only computer is a desktop. So I don't currently
have any synchronization needs as such (except with iPods and iPhones)
and don't really know anything about that subject. I was just chiming
in on the one small subject of Firewire attributes. And now I hear
that Thunderbolt will soon be replacing Firewire as the data transfer
connection of the future.

Then what back-up fire wire drive would you recommend for a lap top
to use Super Duper on, and have access to Target Disk Mode????

Another advantage to Firewire drives is Target Disk Mode, which
allows you to migrate your files to a new computer easily if you're
not able to use Migration Assistant for some reason (I was not, and
Target Disk Mode saved me).

I forgot about that. The only PPC Mac we have left is the eMac in
the kitchen and I don't back it up.
I know there was a reason I used to pay the premium for firewire
even when I was just using the drive for backup and didn't really
"need" the extra speed...

USB will work fine for Super Duper. I use them all the time.
Firewire will just work faster.
Also, older PowerPC Macs can’t boot off USB drives.
