I used to wear those straw hats when I was young, but none ever lasted much over a year. After one summer I usually threw them out.

But I still wear an old derby hat now and then, that I purchased about 1953, when I returned from Korea. Still very stylish, I think.

Most of my hats are 80 years old. I have a straw boater that is over 100 years old. It's part of my love of history and design. Tilleys are fine for the use of sport or work.

I wear the Tilly, my old standby when I work in the yard, dark green, then a couple biege and a dark blue. I love them, but I have had some comments about some old guy mowing my yard wearing a ragged hat.....at least I get the attention.

I know that embedded videos from YouTube don't even show up in safari on the iPhone or iPad if they are flash.
I do a video each month for a hat collectors site.

An while it will play in the YouTube app it does not even appear will viewing the forum on iPad or iPhone. I keep trying to learn the trick some sites use to allow YouTube to serve a iPad friendly video there is an embed tag that does the trick so YouTube will sever you the mp4 video.

Just my thoughts on your problem. :)

I would understand that if the video wouldn't also play in the youtube app. But it plays there and not in safari. If it were the connection speed why wouldn't it also not play in the youtube app?

Bill,

This is why I wrote to Harry this morning about the speed connection I had on my iPad, ver. 1. If you don't have a strong connection you have to start the video, go make a batch of home made ice cream, then return to the video you were downloading.

Well, I'm not sure the answer, but It may be the connection. There were times when our wireless took forever to open a video in safari, and as I remember, sometimes the audio would start without the video. Maybe if you could try the safari videos at a location - coffee shop or apple store - where you know the wi- fi is strong, and see if it helps any.

I still think I am not being clear.

When I clicked on the link below it opened up in my youtube app. I have no problems seeing videos within my youtube app.

BUT when I am in safari and go to www.youtube.com and click on a video all I get is sound I do not get the video.

Ok, so here is a link I'd like you to try.
I got it by being in safari, searching for a subject, choosing from the resulting list a link with a YouTube video. The link is what was at the bottom of the search result for the video I choose. When I click on the link (with my finger on the iPad), the safari screen slides around, and I have the YouTube 'page', with the video.

Yeah, but it's not a you tube video. I can't get videos within you tube to work in Safari on the ipad. If I use the youtube app then they work.

I have a first generation iPad. when I try to look at You Tube videos with the web browser I get the audio but not the video.

However, if I use the You Tube app, I have no problems seeing the video and hearing the audio.

Why can I not see the video with the iPad web browser?

Try emptying the Safari cache.
