Right Harry, they are not part of the OS, they are preinstalled on a NEW Mac
but if you are wanting those programs you need to purchase iLife, HOWEVER, iDVD
is no longer supported, Apple is trying to get us to move away from disk, like
they did floppies. Not cool as if you are trying to make video's for others
you now have to get Toast or have a copy of iDVD left over from older disk you
may have had.

I use the Pro models, with FinalCut, Motion, etc. The new FinalCut X does NOT
have iDVD Pro so I always have to keep my oder versions.

So, for my class today I needed the iDVD Pro on the laptop to take to the Apple
store. I got the previous version of FinalCut out and got the iDVD Pro disk
and inserted it into the drive and installed. In my case it DID NOT install,
even thought it said it did BECAUSE the newer version was already installed on
the laptop. On the Mac Pro I had iDVD Pro on it BEFORE FinalCut X so the iDVD
Pro shows up.

I was told to delete FinalCut X, Motion, and Compressor, install the previous
version completely and THEN download the new version and install, this would
preserve iDVD Pro.

Lots of words, but in your case you will need a copy of iLife that contains
iDVD. I will say I have not tired iDVD with Lion since I am using the Pro
version.
