I guess you're connected wirelessly, from the sound of it. Have you tried 
restarting your router? After you do, then restart the iMac and try pinging 
your router, or logging into it. (It's usually at 192.168.0.1.) This will tell 
you whether you're connected locally.

If you can log into your router with any device, there's usually a status page 
to tell you which devices are connected. If you don’t  see the iMac there, then 
the problem is probably with the computer.
