I am recently new to using a Mac, my wife purchased for me as an early
Christmas present an iMac running Mountain Lion. All of my previous computers
have run Windows or Linux.

I have two young sons that have a hard time remembering to put DVDs back into
their cases after watching them. So movies that we own tend to become scratched
up very quickly. As a precaution, I would make backup copies and let them play
those, while keeping the original on a cd spindle.

Coming from the Windows side, I am very familiar with Handbrake. But I cannot
get it working on my iMac. It will accept the DVD, but then just spin and spin
if I try to open the DVD as a source.

Any other software recommendations for DVD backups?

I really would prefer not to have to buy The Avengers a third time.
