With Insight, you could access the SMTP server from anywhere to send mail, as 
long as you authenticated with your Insight user/pass. I can’t  find anything 
like that for TWC, but it could be buried in their marvelously clear docs. My 
solution is just to not use TWC mail for anything. (Of course, their having 
just POP and no IMAP made that a really easy decision.) I use Google as my SMTP 
server when I’m traveling. There's a setting on the Gmail page that will let 
you use external return addresses with Google. (Settings > Accounts > Send mail 
as:) There are instructions how to set it up.

I set TWC to forward everything to a real account that has IMAP. That way, if 
some benighted soul happens to send me something at my TWC address, I don’t  
have to handle it there. Besides, POP is sooooo 20th century!
