OK.

I did that (I think) now have:

/Users/cartwrig/Library/Mail/V2/[email protected]/INBOX.mbox

It has 30.3 MB of data, 1,4,96 items; however none of the older mail appears 
when I look at my mail. Why doesn't it show up.

Maybe I reached the limits of what Mail will hold. Really needed to clean out 
my Inbox?

Also, in response to Lees suggestion about looking in Trash, none of the 
missing messages from my Inbox appear there but there are messages that I 
trashed earlier yesterday before my Inbox emptied.
