Anne, This is above my pay grade, I have never had that problem, if I mess up I have been able to retrieve all items. Try Lee’s suggestion to rebuild the indexes. Strange for you got the lost files back but they aren’t readable. If you are saying that you have 1,498 items that certainly isn’t enough to max out Mail, I have tons more than that.
