Your right the old method does sound easier.  

The only other option is to press on one of the conversations to bring up the 
“more” choices and this time when you click on those you want to save hit the 
forward arrow and those will be text to yourself…then delete the entire 
message..however the forwarded text are all one continuous message, not 
separated into the various persons in the conversation…very generic.
