Lee is definitely right, the upgrades that Apple puts out for the Mac, is not 
only for extra features,  but are especially important for the security 
upgrades. Unless there is an important piece of software that you use to make a 
living with, always install the next OS that is released. 
Now, macOS Sierra isn't available for 2008 and older Macs. It's pretty much end 
of life for those and my 2010 MBP will be next I'm sure 😥
