Well I got an answer and it isn’t pretty. After arguing with a tech support person and getting nowhere I asked to speak to a supervisor. He told me TiVo doesn’t support streaming to a computer outside of your home network. I said that’s not true, because I have been streaming from my TiVo at home in Kentucky to my computer here in Alabama. He got a little huffy and read me the standard official line that TiVo cannot stream to a computer off the home network. I said that’s BS because I have been doing so for 10 days. I went on to say they do have the capability because I have been doing it. He backed down and intimated (but didn’t say outright) that TiVo has that capability. I then suggested some machine or some person monitors the streaming and shut me down. When I pushed further he went on to say that the TV sources don’t allow TiVo to stream to computers off network. When I asked why they allow streaming to iPads but not computers he replied with enhanced computing capabilities one can get around copyright laws and copy programs.
I gave up. That’s ridiculous. If I am at home I can download a program to my iPad and watch it whenever I want and I’m guessing transfer it to my computer. I can also watch on my computer when I am at home. So what’s to prevent me from copying programs while at home. Big brother is out there.
