The BeagleBoard does not have any expansion slots (PCI or PCIe) or "real" parallel ports (EPP), so you'd need to use an Ethernet connected Mesa board like the 7i92 if you want something with more performance than the on-chip PRUs. That said, I'd recommend something with two Ethernet ports and better Ethernet performance if you're going to use a 7i92. Just about any low-end PC would work much better and it will be *MUCH* easier to configure (and you'll also have decent graphics performance and lots of RAM). Both the BeagleBone and the RPi max out a a few hundred KBit/s over Ethernet with fairly high CPU load and latency vs. typical x86 systems. If you really want to use an ARM with the Mesa boards, you'll get better performance with one of the SoC+FPGA boards (where there's a direct bus connection between the ARM core and the Mesa logic) like the DE0-Nano, using an interface board to connect to Mesa daughter cards (if needed). Note this isn't yet a "mainstream" setup, and you'll need to use one of the remote GUIs if you want any sort of decent graphics performance. -- Charles Steinkuehler [email protected] -- website: http://www.machinekit.io blog: http://blog.machinekit.io github: https://github.com/machinekit --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Machinekit" group.
