I have it working now and able to control my milling machine. In the config statement for the 7i80 board I had "num_encoders=6 num_stepgens=5 num_pwmgens=1 sserial_port_0=20xxxxxx" which worked fine with my kinuxcnc configuration but machinekit did not appear to like the "sserial_port_0=20xxxxxx" entry. After removing that the 7i80 board became alive.
