It uses the second line connections of an RJ-11, pins 2 & 5. The phone
uses pins 3 & 4. If the house was wired for two phone lines then you might
be set, more or less. If it is wired for more than one line make sure the
line you use for LocalTalk is disconnected at the demarcation point
(demarc) where the phone lines from the pole are hooked up to the household
lines. You never know what The Phone Company (TPC) might do. The two
farthest points of the network should have 120 ohm resistors connected
across them to provide proper termination.

In my current house I was pleased to discover that the original owner had
had 6 pairs of phone wiring strung daisy chain around the house when it was
built. Thus all I had to do was connect a second pair and terminate it.
That was until I went Ethernet and had to add a whole slew of new wiring.
