I do not know, I'm guessing, and I hope the real experts will comment.  The
PB 145 might become friendlier with the other Macs if you install Open
Transport.  Download it from apple.com.  Quote from "Mac Secrets" 5th
Edition, by David Pogue and Joseph Schorr:  "...can be installed onto any
'030 or faster Mac running System 7.1 or later."

Have you played much with the SCSI ID and termination?  Even putting another
SCSI device in the chain?  Some older model PBs have been finicky.
