It's a common misconception and too many people will quote it as gospel.
HFS vs HFS+ is completely hidden by AppleShare the only way to tell the
difference over AppleShare is by looking at the miniumum file size compared
to the volume size.

There can be problems if the served volume is larger than 2Gb but that is
true for any machine.  This only seems to apply with AppleShare over
AppleTalk, not AppleShare over IP.  This has nothing to do with HFS+ though.
