No. If a Zip drive isn't mounted at startup, the
driver will not load.

No. It starts -- and is recognized as any other Zip --
but clicks uncontrollably and refuses to access the
disk.
I had a Zip that died. I *think* I still have the
power supply. If that's the problem, let me know.
