Hi, I am a newbie to the list. I am at this time forced to work on a Wintel PC because I have not been successfull at connecting a cable modem to my UMAX Pulsar (Euro S900). I have followed the skimpy Mac instructions that came with my 3Com cable modem, i.e. set the "connect" to "Ethernet" in the TCP/IP control panel and then set "configure" to "Using DHCP server". I have restarted the computer and can confirm that I was assigned an IP address and I have also checked to see if my UMAX has a hardware address, which it does. I am however, unable to access WWW or e-mail. What gives?
A second question that I have is with regards to setting up my home LAN. Since this is the first time that I have used a cable modem, it is first now a problem that my Pulsar only has one built-in Ethernet port. I have an Asante fast PCI 100 Mbps card that I could add, but I need some advice both as to which slot is recomendable for the new card, how to configure two Ethernet cards to run on my Pulsar, as well as how to both access the Internet and my LAN at the same time. The other computers on my LAN are running either Win 98 SE or Mandrake Linux. I use Dave to access the Win machines. Cheers, Brian -- MacNetwork is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
