        There's that control panel... "Location" or "Location 
Manager" or something (sorry, on OSX now).  It's probably used more 
often by laptop folks, but you can use it on a desktop, too, to very 
easily change your tcp/ip, appletalk, printer, and other settings to 
other pre-set (by you) combinations.


        Also, regarding the original issue... I had a hub that was 
apparently responsible for slow/stalled AppleTalk.  It just sort of 
happened all at once, and would only affect certain pairs of 
machines, but swapping out the hub solved it completely.  Weird.
