either the router or one of the ethernet cards may be corrupt.  it could
also be that one particular cable is bad, at the connectors or elswhere,
or that the cable is picking up allot of  interference.  they do make
shielded cat 5 cable, and i do know of a case where it made all the
difference even though they never found the interference source.  try
the copy between other macs as well as switching the connections around.
 a tight bend or crimp somewhere in the cable could be enough to cause
problems.  or the cable may have been damaged by moving furniture or
construction.  i've seen idiot roofers drive a staple right through an
outdoor phone cable that was visible (in fact as soon as i looked i saw
the staple through the cable!).  just guesses, hope you figure it out.
