If the imac has support for an airport card (and one is installed) then 
yes. You can purchase a card after you have it, as long as the imac 
model supports the card (not all do).

Do you have a wired (ethernet) network there already?  Does the 
performa have a network card?
If so, then it would work just fine. If not, then that complicates 
things a bit...
Give me  some details on your network setup so I can know what you need.
