You may already know this, but you don't need a laptop with built-in
wifi.  Any laptop with a PCMCIA slot will do (which is just about any
laptop).  I got my wife's W98SE PC laptop on our Airport network by
adding an Orinoco Silver card plus downloading some drivers.  Very
simple.
