I am trying to setup Internet sharing from a dial up connection on a jaguar machine to a panther machine using an Ethernet cable. Is this possible? If so, I need help with the details of how to configure this.

First, establish your dial-up connection. Then go to the Sharing preference pane and turn on Internet sharing (you must have a connection to turn it on). Once on, it will remain on across disconnects and reconnects. You will have to turn it back on after a re-boot.

On your Panther machine, select the Network Preferences pane, select built-in Ethernet, and configure Using DHCP.

The Panther machine will request an IP address from the Jaguar machine. Then, they will both be online.

Hope this helps.

P.S. I do this also, except, instead of Panther, I'm running OS 9.2.2 on an 8600/300. Jaguar on an iBook clamshell 300MHZ with 192MB or RAM. Yes, it gets a little pokey at times :-)

Well here is where I get confused. I followed your instructions, and it
does not work. The panther machine picks up an ip and subnet mask but
the Internet connection does not work.

I must have some sort of weird problem, because this has never worked
for me. Any suggestions?
