X-Plane 6.30 adds 10.2 support, combat designs

September 3rd 2002

OpenGL-based flight sim X-Plane has been updated to version 6.30.

Tuesday Laminar Research released the final version of X-Plane 6.30. At the top of the
feature list is compatibility with Mac OS X 10.2. The update returns joystick support
under the new operating system.

Also added is support for new Mars scenery. The added Mars scenery uses techniques
brought to X-Plane 6.10 for Earth scenery. The new scenery makes flying on Mars (you
always wanted to, right?) much more dramatic and accurate. 6.30 includes a demo area,
with full scenery CDs expected by the end of September. Flying on Mars introduces
particular challenges for pilots, airplane designers and even airport designs.

Also new in 6.30 are the beginnings of combat support. 6.30 includes tools be begin
designing aircraft with weapons. Full combat abilities are pending a future update,
expected around Thanksgiving. The aircraft design tools allows designers to fit any
aircraft with any type weapon, or design combat aircraft from scratch. X-Plane combat
will be available as a separate package from the current X-Plane.

In addition to the major features, there are numerous other fixes and additions. For
more information, visit X-Plane.com.
