Apple kicks in more freebies for .Mac with free Kodak prints
By Michael Flaminio, Insanely Great Mac
September 5th 2002

As September 30th looms, Apple ups the ante further to encourage customers to upgrade
to .Mac.

Mac users on the fence over whether to upgrade their iTools to .Mac have something new
to consider. Apple is now offering some new promotions available only to .Mac
customers.

.Mac customers now have 100 free Kodak 4x6 prints. The prints must be activated by
November 7, and expire December 31, 2002. The prints must be ordered via Apple''s
iPhoto print service. The prints have a value of $49, coincidently the same price
(nearly) for first year .Mac subscription for iTools users.

Also added is a free copy of Alchemy Deluxe, a puzzle game and $5 off a game called
Bejeweled Deluxe. Alchemy Deluxe can be downloaded via .Mac under a "What''s New"
button. Details of all .Mac promotions are also available here. Regular and
promotional pricing for the software titles could no be found. The two games don''t
appear to be released yet, however, they are available via the iDisk.

Analysis:

The Kodak prints will add some real value to .Mac for many Mac users. I don''t know
what the deal is with the games.

I''ll admit that I upgraded my .Mac account after careful consideration. I''m still
exploring ways to get the most out of the service.

One thing the really got me, is that you can add additional email accounts to your
account for $10 a year. The accounts are email-only and give you 5 MB of space. If
this is the value of the iTools'' email accounts ($10 with 5 MB), why not just offer
email as a stand-alone service for $10? I find this whole .Mac email situation very
frustrating.
