Mac OS X resource offers solutions for common problems
By Michael Flaminio, Insanely Great Mac

MacAttory groups puts together a big listing of Jaguar tips and tricks

The MacAttorney User Group is hosting a Mac OS X resource for troubleshooters. The
resource has been compiled by Randy Singer, the head of the group. The Mac OS X 10.2
Jaguar Troubleshooting page has most all known common problems, plus a few obscure
tidbits. The tips have been culled from mailing lists, Web forums, Web sites and email
exchanges and continues to be updated.

The resource is not really a catalog of Mac OS X issues/problems, but more known
solutions for common problems. Some gems include tips for diagnosing kernel panics,
general slowness and built-in/bundled disk maintenance tools. Even the most seasoned
OS X guru will find something new here. Hopefully the resource will continue to expand
over time and keep up to date with software and OS updates.

Analysis:

If you're new to OS X or just an OS X junky, Randy has put together a nice page. Best
part is that it's available online for quick reference, and doesn't need to be
committed to memory. My personal experiences with OS X has been that it needs less
maintenance and has few problems than OS 9, but there have been a few problems and
mysterious behavior that needed fixing. Most of the problems I can remember are
covered on the site. Probably the best part is that this resource is free, especially
for those who might only need it once. While MacFixIt has been the long king of Mac
troubleshooting, their archives and some features require fees for use.
