MacFixit: Cometa will be Mac compatible
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
December 31st 2002

The upcoming nationwide 802.11 wireless network will welcome the rest of us

MacFixIt has posted a reader report that stating that Cometa Networks, the new 802.11
wireless venture by AT&T, Intel and IBM, along with Apax Partners and 3i; will be Mac
compatible.

Cometa spokesperson has confirmed that the nationwide broadband access will be Mac
compatible.

"Cometa will be a network operating on IEEE standards in the 802.11 area," the unnamed
spokesperson is quoted as saying. "The Apple Computer AirPort card, which operates on
802.11b, will be supported. There will be no other specific (hardware) needed to use
the system."

Good news.

Editor's note: This pre-prelaunch announcement of Mac compatibility by the nascent
vendor is reassuring. In a world that sometimes seems like its closed or closing in
around the rest of us, it's good to see that some companies have written the Mac into
their business plan from the get go.
