SoftRAID 3 introduced, adds Mac OS X disk array support

Mac disk array RAID software now available for Mac OS X
SoftRAID 3 brings RAID 0 and RAID 1 support to Mac OS X, allowing users to combined
multiple hard disks into cooperative disks. For example a RAID 0 configuration allows
two or more 60 GB hard disks to act as a single 60 GB volume, offering the combined
speed of multiple disks for tasks such as video editing. RAID 1 for example allows a
second disk to act as a real-time redundant backup for the first disk. In the event of
a drive failure, data will be immediately available for use on the alternate drive.
"Many Server Admins and Video professionals have delayed their migration to Mac OS X,
waiting for a server quality RAID", said Timothy Standing, V.P. of Engineering at
SoftRAID, LLC. "Now, with SoftRAID 3, those users along with small business accounting
and database users, are able to move up with the assurance of high data availability
and better performance."
SoftRAID 3 supports non-RAID and RAID levels 0 and 1 on any combination of FireWire,
ATA, SCSI and Fibre Channel drives. Users can easily update their OS 9 SoftRAID
volumes to OS X Volumes. In addition, SoftRAID offers automatic rebuilding of Mirror
volumes and automatic notification of errors, all with the high reliability and
performance SoftRAID users have come to expect. Advanced features such as I/O counts,
disk error tracking, and conversion of standard volumes to RAID volumes make SoftRAID
3 the leader out of the gate. SoftRAID's sleek interface is multi-threaded, powerful
and intuitive.
SoftRAID is expected to ship in 30-45 days after Macworld Expo. The software will have
a suggest retail price of $149, with a $99 upgrade available to SoftRAID 2.2.2
customers. Users who purchased/upgraded a retail copy (not OEM) after August 1. 2002
are entitled to a free upgrade to version 3.
