MP3 Sushi: Another way to broadcast, share tunes
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
February 17th 2003
Broadcast solutions for the Mac are proliferating, but will we see brandname
developers enter the fray?
Maliasoft has announced version 1.1 of MP3 Sushi, an application that lets you control
both Jukebox and Radio servers.
Capable of down sampling music for broadcast (24Kbps), including the MPEG-4 and Ogg
Vorbis formats, this handy-dandy application weighs less than a megabyte.
Last week IGM noted the arrival of a similar app, EarPhoria, which relies on Apple's
Rendezvous to locate and share files over a LAN.
Editor's note: MP3 broadcast and sharing applications are proliferating. Of course,
thus far all of these applications are the products of small and one-man software
developers. This leads one to the expectation that similar solutions will be arriving
soon from the big boys. What we need is Cassidy & Greene or similar player to produce
a more full-featured product.
What's your take? Does anyone aside from the small guys have the stomach to take the
LAN broadcast and sharing mp3 plunge?
