My big firefox extensions are Stylish and NoScript. For me, these are musts -- too many web sites are unreadable without either forcing large fonts everywhere (breaking a lot of formatting), and script control is a safety concern for me. (Hey, you run anti-virus on your x86 system, right?)
Next is "ActiveInbox" and WebmailAdBlocker, both for gmail. I could actually do without these. Tab and window restoring? I found out the hard way that Safari doesn't do a good job of restoring -- firefox gets me back to the "post" page with my post under construction intact most of the time, safari gets a zero. Page loading lockups? For whatever reason, safari will OFTEN lock up during loading a page, and sit there doing nothing for 40-60 seconds. Far more often than Firefox does. And Safari makes fewer open channels to a web site, resulting in longer loading times. Yes, I know, fewer channels means less overhead, potentially increasing loading speed especially if a server supports keep alive, but this requires intelligent re-ordering of the loading queue, which safari doesn't seem to do, and you still need "display as you fetch", while safari wants to load the entire page before it renders anything. "Top Sites" is great, until you realize that it causes your "last login date" to be updated on some forums, resulting in missed new postings. And the huge amount of advertising pages displayed by default? No, overall, I tried Safari. I love the smaller footprint (firefox is a memory hog), and I keep safari for the times when memory is critical.
