Yeah, That's not what is taking up my RAM. I rarely run with more than 6-10 
tabs open in Safari and I never run Chrome for more than a few minutes (only 
launch it to load very occasional flash content. The reason I run Chrome at all 
is the exact reason I will never run it as my default browser: Flash).

My real memory use is:

1.1GB on Kernel
500MB each on iTunes, Safari WebContent, and Safari
256MB Mail, Serviio, mds
100MB on each of about 12 programs.

Keep in mind most of the 'used' memory was inactive. Right now I have 4GB 
active and 8GB inactive and 2GB wired. I recently launched World of Warcraft, 
so that's going to be a lot of the Inactive.
